About Me
- Downing Hollow Farm
- Downing Hollow is the home of Alex Greene and Lori Godwin-Greene. Along with their field crops, they also raise two little people named Henry and Hattie. They share the farm with various dogs, cats, chickens, a horse, coyotes, turkeys, blue herons, and white-tailed deer. Prior to farming and raising kids, Lori worked for many years creating menus and cooking for Another Roadside Attraction, one of Memphis' most popular catering businesses. She also performed as the celebrated blues chanteuse, Lorette Velvette. Alex grew up on a farm in Nebraska, and later worked on organic farms in Marin County, California. He was a cook at The Squash Blossom, one of the first health-food restaurants and groceries in Memphis, before earning his doctorate in cultural anthropology. He has written for the journal Culture and Agriculture, among others. Also a musician, he and Lori can still be seen onstage occassionally with The Kropotkins. (But not during the growing season).
